Marvel's Avengers livestream reveals new features and main villain
Today, we got another deep dive into Curiosity'southward Avengers. A special War Table livestream rehashed a lot of information that we already know near the game, merely it too gave the states ane tantalizing new bit of information. The principal villain in Marvel's Avengers will be the Mental Organism Designed But for Killing, aka K.O.D.O.M.
If y'all want to check out the total stream replay, we've embedded information technology beneath:
- PS5 price, pre-order, release engagement, controller and more
- Xbox Series 10 release date, cost, pre-order, controller and more than
- Plus: Google only fabricated a huge privacy change -- what you demand to know
For the most part, the 25-minute livestream reiterated things that nosotros already knew about the game. Information technology's an action game where you'll have control of (at least) six different Avengers: Captain America, Atomic number 26 Man, Hulk, Thor, Black Widow and Ms. Curiosity. Y'all select missions (either single-player story missions or multiplayer challenge missions) from a cardinal hub, then fight off enemies with light, heavy and special attacks as y'all go. You can customize your characters' skills and upgrade their gear over time.
We did get to run across a new level this time around: a Thor-centric mission chosen Once An Avenger. In information technology, Thor faced off against a variety of combat robots on a rooftop, wielding a lightning-imbued Mjolnir to vanquish his foes. If you've played God of War or Spider-Human, you've seen something pretty similar to this combat before, although Marvel's Avengers is level-based rather than open-earth.
The interesting news involves M.O.D.O.1000., a semi-deep-cutting Marvel villain who will accept center stage this time around. M.O.D.O.M. starts off as a scientist named George Tarleton who wants to "cure" the condition that creates Inhumans. (Explaining the Inhumans would take its ain article, then some, just basically, some are proficient, some are bad, they have a variety of superpowers, and Ms. Curiosity is one.) Over the course of the game, he mutates into something much more powerful, and much more grotesque.
While Curiosity's Avengers has gotten some flack for trying to split the difference betwixt a single-player action game and an ongoing multiplayer live service game, M.O.D.O.Chiliad.'s inclusion demonstrates that Crystal Dynamics is at least trying something artistic with the story. Avengers games tend to fall dorsum on the same handful of bad guys (Dr. Doom, Loki, Ultron, Thanos, Galactus), and it'south good to meet a B-lister take center stage for in one case. Granted, nosotros expect some additional villains to plough upwards in the game besides, but it's about time that Chiliad.O.D.O.K. got his plough in the spotlight.
Otherwise, the game looks very video game-y, for lack of a better term. Based on YouTube and Twitter responses to the alive stream, some fans feel that the game looks derivative of other, better superhero games, while others are just pleased to become another Avengers game from a major studio.
I'chiliad in the later on camp myself, but nosotros'll know for sure on Sept. 4, when the game comes out for PS4, PC and Xbox One. Fans who purchase Marvel'southward Avengers on current-gen consoles will become a free update once the PS5 and Xbox Serial X versions come up out.
